James and Jamie Heysen Hike

04 Sep 2025

“We decided to fundraise for Hutt St Centre, because we wanted to support a charity that we both like and has a big impact on issues we want to help with. Homelessness was the first thing on our list.”

James and Jamie had a gap year like no other after finishing Year 12. Inspired by Hutt St Centre’s Walk a Mile in My Boots (remove for short version), they took a walking challenge to the next level and committed to an epic three-month trek of the 1,200km long Heysen Trail.

With a spring in their step and after years of careful planning, James and Jamie set out with the aim to raise $2,400 for Hutt St Centre, $1 for every kilometre walked by each of them. After posting their hike on Instagram and several radio interviews with FiveAA, they raised an incredible $8,464!

A tour of the Centre brought it all home for the two friends, seeing firsthand how their fundraising provides services for people facing homelessness.

Thanks to James and Jamie’s amazing commitment to taking on this challenge – blisters and all – more people in need will be able to access meals, healthcare, and hot showers at Hutt St Centre.

We are inspired by the commitment of people like James and Jamie, for pushing themselves to new limits to create a better future for people doing it tough in our community.
