Christopher’s journey home
After my marriage broke down, I slept in my car, in sheds and in a tent. The hardest part was losing contact with my two daughters. I missed them every day. My only companion was my old dog Bucky. Without him, I would have been completely alone.
Life is dangerous when you’re homeless. I was seriously assaulted and ended up in hospital three times. Whenever I walked through the city; I’d be on guard. I was nervous all the time and didn’t know who to trust.
When I first went to Hutt St, all I wanted was a meal. While I was there, I ended up talking to a case worker and for the first time in two years I felt like someone believed in me. In a couple of weeks, I’d started turning my life around. I’ll forever be grateful for that support. - Christopher
