The Louise Fund

Hutt St Centre is seeing a record number of women seeking support—up 30% since 2022—with over 80% experiencing homelessness for the first time.

To meet this urgent need, we have launched the Louise Fund, which will provide once-off financial support for eligible female-identified clients to achieve or retain homefulness.

This vital fund provides once-off financial assistance to eligible women, helping them secure or maintain safe and stable housing. It is a lifeline for those experiencing crisis—whether due to domestic violence, financial hardship, or unexpected emergencies—giving them the support they need to avoid homelessness and rebuild their lives.

Named in honor of Louise de Marillac

Louise de Marillac, co-founder of the Daughters of Charity, dedicated her life to caring for vulnerable people. This fund reflects her unwavering commitment to protecting and uplifting those in need.

By providing timely financial support, the Louise Fund helps women avoid the devastating cycle of homelessness. It empowers them to stay housed, regain stability, and build independent lives.

This fund doesn ’t just provide a safety net—it offers a pathway to security, dignity, and a future free from crisis. Your support of the Louise Fund means more women can find safety, keep their homes, and create a future where they are not just surviving—but thriving.

Women and Homelessness: The Hidden Crisis

Women impacted by homelessness often remain unseen—not because they aren’t there, but because they are taking extreme measures to stay safe. Many resort to couch surfing, sleeping in cars, or moving constantly to avoid danger.

Since 2022, Hutt St Centre has seen:

  • A 26% increase in women using laundry services
  • A 14% rise in shower use
  • A 10% increase in medical visits
  • A 30% growth in Wellbeing Centre visits by women
  • A 115% surge in attendance at female-specific programs
