The streets are nothing like home. When winter sets in, they become even harsher. There’s no comfort, no privacy, and at night it can be outright dangerous.

With the housing crisis and rising rents, many are being priced out of the market with nowhere safe to go.

Some are outstaying their welcome on friends’ couches, hoping for just another night in the warm. Others, like Tim, are sleeping in freezing vehicles, doing what they can to get through the night.

This winter, your support can provide someone facing homelessness with meals, showers, and the practical support they need to face winter with strength and dignity.

Four long years of living in a van with only his dog for company

Despite a lifetime of hard work and resilience, Tim found himself facing the streets with nowhere to go.

Tim grew up in an abusive home and as soon as he could drive, he packed his belongings and moved out. He worked hard, built a successful career in trade, and eventually bought his own home.

But everything changed when a life-threatening brain tumour was discovered – taking his health, his ability to work, and eventually his home.

“I spent four years living in my van with my dog, Trevor, by my side. In winter, if it’s freezing cold and you’ve only got one or two blankets - it’s still not enough. As soon as you open the car all the heat escapes. A couple of times, I went over a week without food.”

With the care of supporters like you, Tim was met with a gentle welcome and the practical help of a Winter Warmer Pack to start getting his and Trevor's lives back on track.
