For Grant, childhood trauma shaped much of his adult life. Over time, he turned to alcohol to cope, found it increasingly difficult to maintain steady employment and moved between temporary places to live.
Eventually, Grant found himself without a home, possessions or a support network to rely on.
At a time when Grant needed support, Hutt St Centre was there to help him take the next step.

When Grant was referred to Hutt St Centre, he arrived in need of immediate support and stability.
He was welcomed with a warm meal and compassionate care. As trust grew, he was connected with the Aspire team, who worked alongside him to secure stable housing and furnish his new home.
“When I first came to Hutt St, I was greeted at the door and showed around. I had a warm shower and a hot meal, which was brilliant also because the people serving it are really nice.”
Today, Grant has a safe place to live, is rebuilding his health, and is reconnecting with his children. But there are still people in our community facing the same challenges he once faced, trauma, homelessness, isolation and uncertainty.
